Our world is a diverse place filled with over 6,000 languages. Unfortunately more than 1,600 languages are still waiting for the Bible to be translated in their heart language. That means many people around the world are not able to read God’s word for themselves. However, Wycliffe Bible translators exist to ensure that all people groups can read God’s word in their own heart language.
Recently, our family visited the Wycliffe Discovery Center in Orlando, Fl. On our trip with a local homeschool group, we had the opportunity to learn about Wycliffe Bible translators, which was founded by William Cameron (“Uncle Cam”) Townsend in 1942. We took part in a program which took the students on a journey around the world while teaching us about Bible translation and the important role it plays in telling others about God’s love. Through crafts, scavenger hunts, and other enjoyable activities the students learned about God’s love for everyone, the world we live in, and the need for all peoples to have the Bible in their own heart language.
