Like most moms, I’m busy and I adore a great deal. So it should come as no surprise that I am a big fan of our local Dollar General Store. I recently made a trip to the Dollar General store with one goal in mind: Easter baskets for my tween and teen sons. Gift items for boys in this age range always prove to be challenging. Everything seems too young, too girly, or too expensive. They are disgusted with anything remotely resembling plush bunnies and plastic eggs. Yet, they love gifts and anything with sugar in it. When I go to the store, I struggle with what to buy these “men children” who are almost as big as me (ok, one has surpassed me). However, I was pleasantly surprised with the results of my latest trip to our local Dollar General store. Here are my results: Freezer pops (great for sharing with the neighborhood kids on the weekend), popcorn cup with popcorn packet, soda, chips (because teenage boys love to eat), chocolate bunny (because I might be able to steal it), snot bubble glasses (teen boys are gross and they were on clearance), and a beach towel.
Including the baskets, the whole gift was around $13 each. If you use your own container and/or omit the beach towel the price will be even lower. Now comes the real test, will they dive into their loot or will there be eye rolling? (BTW: the punishment for eye rolling is mom eats the chocolate bunny.)
