Evening Fun at Universal’s City Walk

Evening Fun at Universal’s City Walk

A visit from out of town guests provides a great opportunity to meet up at new locales. A few weeks ago we met some old friends at Universal’s City Walk. Unlike the theme parks, admission to City Walk is free, as is parking after 6 PM. However, we decided to beat the evening rush and pay the before 6 PM parking fee of $20.  We met our friends at NBC Sports Grill and Bar. With over 100 high definition screens,…

Adventures in the Windy City, Part 2

Adventures in the Windy City, Part 2

Our second day in the Windy City proved to be as enjoyable as our first day even though it was much shorter. After breakfast at our hotel, we lugged our luggage to Union Station, where our train was departing later in the day. The boys had quite an education in early morning traffic in a big city, as we passed iconic buildings such as Willis Tower, Trump Tower, and Chicago’s Federal Reserve. At Union Station, we were able to put…

Adventures in the Windy City, Part 1

Adventures in the Windy City, Part 1

As the plane descended, we caught our first view of the Chicago skyline. The wonderful view made me forget that I had risen at 3:30 am to catch our flight. Our first introduction to Chicago was a ride on the L (CTA orange line from Midway) to our hotel, where we dropped our luggage off. Compared to a taxi, the $2 one way ticket ($10 all day) was an inexpensive and direct route to downtown. Within walking distance of our…

Hollywood Brown Derby

Hollywood Brown Derby

Located near Hollywood and Vine, the Hollywood Brown Derby was a hot spot for stars during the Golden Age of Hollywood. Even though the Hollywood restaurant is no longer open for business, visitors to Walt Disney World, can dine in style at Hollywood Studio’s Hollywood Brown Derby. Like its namesake, the Floridian Brown Derby has a Spanish mission façade and is filled with caricatures of famous stars. One of the signature dishes is the Cobb Salad, which mimics the recipe…

Welcome Home Dinner at Olivia’s Cafe

Welcome Home Dinner at Olivia’s Cafe

Our house has been fairly lonely this past week as my husband has been away on a business trip. We were overjoyed to pick him up at the airport, even though the Orlando airport is a mad house on Friday night. Driving home, we decided to stop by for dinner at Olivia’s Cafe in Walt Disney World’s Old Key West. Despite being a Friday night, the restaurant was sparsely populated and we were seated quite quickly. The nautical themed dinner…

A Supercalifragilistic Breakfast

A Supercalifragilistic Breakfast

Enchanting is the word I would use to describe the Supercalifragilistic Breakfast at 1900 Park Fare located in Walt Disney World’s Grand Floridian Resort. Dining guests meet five characters including: Alice, The Mad Hatter, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and Mary Poppins. Our whole family enjoyed meeting the characters and listening to their spot on impressions, especially Mary Poppins, who was “practically perfect in every way.” The customer service and all you care to enjoy buffet were wonderful. The buffet features…

Chef Mickey’s

Chef Mickey’s

We were finally able to catch an open brunch reservation at Chef Mickey’s, Walt Disney World’s popular restaurant located at the Contemporary Resort. Even though my oldest has wanted to go to this restaurant for some time, the scarcity of open reservations and his fear of high ceilings have held him back from enjoying this experience. I was proud that he was able to work through his fear, so we could enjoy the restaurant together as a family.    When…

Grand Floridian Cafe

Grand Floridian Cafe

The Grand Floridian Cafe is located at the luxurious Grand Floridian Resort in the Magic Kingdom area of Walt Disney World. With our 20% pass holder discount, I thought the prices were fairly reasonable. The adult entrees are between $15-$35, with kids meals on average $8-$10. The restaurant provides a full allergy menu which offers dozens of selections. Of course, if you have questions or concerns you can speak to the chef. My son, who is gluten free, was quite…

PizzeRizzo

PizzeRizzo

PizzeRizzo is Disney’s Hollywood Studios newest eatery. Located in the former Toy Story themed Pizza Planet, PizzeRizzo is in Muppets Courtyard next to Muppet Vision 3D. Plenty of seating can be found on both levels and outside. We usually sit on the top floor as it is usually fairly empty and quiet. It is a nice sensory break for my boys and I, who are easily overwhelmed after a few hours at the park. For more of a sensory experience,…
