Mackinaw City

Mackinaw City

Located on the northern headland of Michigan’s lower peninsula lies the Village of Mackinaw City. We recently chose to stay in the city to access Mackinac Island and the local hotels, which are cheaper than the hotels on the island. However, we found that Mackinaw City has more to offer than affordable hotel rooms and Mackinac Island ferry access. On the first night in Mackinaw City, we dined at Darrow’s Family Restaurant, which has been in business for 60 years….

I-Drive McDonalds

I-Drive McDonalds

Six years ago, we left our family and friends in Kentucky for a new adventure: life in Central Florida. With so many activities and places to visit in a state where tourism is king, we weren’t quite sure where to start. One of the first places we checked out was the world’s largest entertainment McDonald’s and Play Place off of International Drive in Orlando. We were sadly disappointed as the food was not that great and the restaurant was quite…

Even though the Hollywood restaurant is no longer open for business, visitors to Walt Disney World, can dine in style at Hollywood Studio’s Hollywood Brown Derby. Like its namesake, the Floridian Brown Derby has a Spanish mission façade and is filled with caricatures of famous stars. One of the signature dishes is the Cobb Salad, which mimics the recipe…

Welcome Home Dinner at Olivia’s Cafe

Welcome Home Dinner at Olivia’s Cafe

Our house has been fairly lonely this past week as my husband has been away on a business trip. We were overjoyed to pick him up at the airport, even though the Orlando airport is a mad house on Friday night. Driving home, we decided to stop by for dinner at Olivia’s Cafe in Walt Disney World’s Old Key West. Despite being a Friday night, the restaurant was sparsely populated and we were seated quite quickly. The nautical themed dinner…

A Supercalifragilistic Breakfast

A Supercalifragilistic Breakfast

Enchanting is the word I would use to describe the Supercalifragilistic Breakfast at 1900 Park Fare located in Walt Disney World’s Grand Floridian Resort. Dining guests meet five characters including: Alice, The Mad Hatter, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and Mary Poppins. Our whole family enjoyed meeting the characters and listening to their spot on impressions, especially Mary Poppins, who was “practically perfect in every way.” The customer service and all you care to enjoy buffet were wonderful. The buffet features…

Chef Mickey’s

Chef Mickey’s

We were finally able to catch an open brunch reservation at Chef Mickey’s, Walt Disney World’s popular restaurant located at the Contemporary Resort. Even though my oldest has wanted to go to this restaurant for some time, the scarcity of open reservations and his fear of high ceilings have held him back from enjoying this experience. I was proud that he was able to work through his fear, so we could enjoy the restaurant together as a family.    When…

Grand Floridian Cafe

Grand Floridian Cafe

The Grand Floridian Cafe is located at the luxurious Grand Floridian Resort in the Magic Kingdom area of Walt Disney World. With our 20% pass holder discount, I thought the prices were fairly reasonable. The adult entrees are between $15-$35, with kids meals on average $8-$10. The restaurant provides a full allergy menu which offers dozens of selections. Of course, if you have questions or concerns you can speak to the chef. My son, who is gluten free, was quite…

Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show

Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show

Hidden in the palm trees and lush foliage of Walt Disney World’s Polynesian Resort lies the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show. As our family waited in line for the show, we felt like we had been transported to the Polynesian Islands. We enjoyed the mild Florida March weather and the view of the Seven Seas Lagoon.  We were given leis and then the hostess showed us to our table which was already set with tropical mixed greens in mango poppyseed…

Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue

“Come ‘n git it!” With the clang of the dinner triangle, guests are ushered into the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue. Located at Walt Disney World’s Campsites at the Fort Wilderness Resort, the dinner show is just a short boat ride away from Disney’s Magic Kingdom. As we entered Pioneer Hall theater, we were shown to our table where buttery, moist cornbread and salad awaited us. Drink orders were promptly taken by the server. For guests over 21, unlimited beer, wine, and sangria…
