A visit from out of town guests provides a great opportunity to meet up at new locales. A few weeks ago we met some old friends at Universal’s City Walk. Unlike the theme parks, admission to City Walk is free, as is parking after 6 PM. However, we decided to beat the evening rush and pay the before 6 PM parking fee of $20.
We met our friends at NBC Sports Grill and Bar. With over 100 high definition screens, the restaurant boasts a unique, casual dining experience. My sons and their friend especially enjoyed the foosball tables. The menu is a mix of scrumptious classics, unique entrees and a wide variety of drafts and bottles. Most of our table settled on one of the many burger selections and fries or tater tots. I chose the Portobello Sandwich. Everyone in our large party enjoyed the food and friendly service. Even though the restaurant does not have a gluten free menu, the server had the chef visit our table to make my gluten free son aware of his choices, which included most of the burgers with a gluten free bun. Our only disappointment was that we didn’t try the large soft pretzel many of our neighboring tables had ordered.
After our dinner, we made sure we had enough room left for some goodies at the Toothsome Chocolate Emporium and Savory Feast Kitchen. We had already spotted guests sampling the famous shakes and sundaes from the sweet restaurant. As we made our way to the restaurant, we noticed that the crowd had increased since our arrival. We were disappointed to learn that once we wedged our way into the restaurant, we could barely move, let alone place an order. The wait for a seat was over two hours long. We were sad that we couldn’t sample the deserts, but of course spending time with good friends is always enjoyable.
Overall, we enjoyed our time at City Walk with our friends. With so many shops, restaurants, the Blue Man Group, and a movie theater, we are looking forward to another out of town guest who is ready for a fun night out. Maybe next time, we will have our milkshakes before dinner.
