Gatorland

Gatorland

After six years in Florida, our family decided to finally visit one of Florida’s original tourist attractions: Gatorland. From its opening in 1949, Gatorland has grown from a roadside attraction to a 110 acre park. Located in Orlando, off of Orange Blossom Trail, the park is teeming with gators, crocodiles and other wildlife. Even after three hours, our family wasn’t able to take in all of the sights and sounds of the family friendly park.   The three shows at Gatorland…

Hunting For the Lazy Days of Summer?

Hunting For the Lazy Days of Summer?

The long, lazy days of summer are here. Though, to be quite honest I haven’t spotted one of those days yet. Our summer schedule has already filled up with out of out of town visitors, day trips, summer camps, and finishing our homeschool year. The long, lazy days have been replaced with long car rides filled with squabbling siblings. However, I recently found a secret weapon to quiet the squabbling. Thanks to my new secret weapon, my kids buckle in…

Hollywood Brown Derby

Hollywood Brown Derby

Located near Hollywood and Vine, the Hollywood Brown Derby was a hot spot for stars during the Golden Age of Hollywood. Even though the Hollywood restaurant is no longer open for business, visitors to Walt Disney World, can dine in style at Hollywood Studio’s Hollywood Brown Derby. Like its namesake, the Floridian Brown Derby has a Spanish mission façade and is filled with caricatures of famous stars. One of the signature dishes is the Cobb Salad, which mimics the recipe…

Closed Doors

Closed Doors

“When the Lord closes a door, somewhere he opens a window.”   Maria, in the musical, The Sound of Music, had dreamed of and planned a life in the abbey. A conniving Baroness, a rigid, sea captain, and seven, mischievous children were not in her plan. The door to her dreams had rudely banged closed. I know exactly how Maria feels. My life hasn’t been the life I pictured as a child. My idealistic pictures of my future never included…

Crayola Experience

Crayola Experience

One of my favorite smells is the smell of a new box of Crayola Crayons. Yes, it has to be Crayola. I am a crayon snob. So the Crayola Experience, at the Florida Mall in Orlando, holds a special place in my heart. From the outside entrance, giant, playful crayons invite you to enter the interactive attraction. The Crayola Experience is jam packed with 26 exhibits that invite guests to create and play. Climbing through the playground, molding with clay,…

Welcome Home Dinner at Olivia’s Cafe

Welcome Home Dinner at Olivia’s Cafe

Our house has been fairly lonely this past week as my husband has been away on a business trip. We were overjoyed to pick him up at the airport, even though the Orlando airport is a mad house on Friday night. Driving home, we decided to stop by for dinner at Olivia’s Cafe in Walt Disney World’s Old Key West. Despite being a Friday night, the restaurant was sparsely populated and we were seated quite quickly. The nautical themed dinner…

A Supercalifragilistic Breakfast

A Supercalifragilistic Breakfast

Enchanting is the word I would use to describe the Supercalifragilistic Breakfast at 1900 Park Fare located in Walt Disney World’s Grand Floridian Resort. Dining guests meet five characters including: Alice, The Mad Hatter, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and Mary Poppins. Our whole family enjoyed meeting the characters and listening to their spot on impressions, especially Mary Poppins, who was “practically perfect in every way.” The customer service and all you care to enjoy buffet were wonderful. The buffet features…

Momiji Japanese Restaurant

Momiji Japanese Restaurant

My favorite food is Sushi. So it should come as no surprise that I was beyond excited when Momiji Japanese Restaurant moved into the new shopping center right outside our subdivision. I was even more excited when my husband suggested that our growing boys needed the opportunity to show off their maturity by spending some time by themselves. I heartily agreed and I knew just the place for our escape. We were not disappointed in the restaurant and have visited…
