We were finally able to catch an open brunch reservation at Chef Mickey’s, Walt Disney World’s popular restaurant located at the Contemporary Resort. Even though my oldest has wanted to go to this restaurant for some time, the scarcity of open reservations and his fear of high ceilings have held him back from enjoying this experience. I was proud that he was able to work through his fear, so we could enjoy the restaurant together as a family.
When we checked into the restaurant, the hostess was extremely gracious and understanding when I explained that my son with autism would like a seat in the covered area as he doesn’t like the view of the high ceiling. While we waited for our turn to be seated, we were able to peruse the printed allergy menu. By the time our buzzer went off my son was familiar with his gluten free options from the buffet as well as what gluten free food was available from the kitchen.
We were shown to our table in the covered area of the restaurant. Since my son was familiar with the gluten free options available from the kitchen, he was able to bypass the visit with the chef and placed his order for his gluten free Mickey Waffles and pastries. Then we were able to make our way to the buffet. I was impressed with the tasty foods for grownup and kid tastes. Our brunch offerings ranged from salads, fruits, pastries, smoked salmon, corned beef hash, a sundae bar and more. Kids can also enjoy a buffet their size with some popular kid favorites. The restaurant is opened for breakfast, brunch and dinner, with prices ranging from $35-59.99 for adults.
Of course the highlight of our brunch was the visit by the “Fab Five,” Chef Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto and Donald Duck. Each character visits the tables throughout the dining room posing for pictures and giving hugs and autographs. Chef Mickey even leads restaurant goers in a napkin waving song and dance. Our first visit to Chef Mickey’s definitely won’t be our last!
