Our Vital Earth

Our Vital Earth

Everyone of us can benefit from a super product that eats garbage, cleans up the environment, reduces landfills and produces natural plant care products. In Apopka, Fl, resides a farm that is devoted to this super product: the worm. Our Vital Earth, off of Plymouth Sorrento Rd, bought their farm in 1980. They converted the old chicken farm into a worm farm to increase awareness of the necessity to use natural means to convert our “green waste” into useful bi-products, with…

Let the Children Come

Let the Children Come

There was a time when my boys were small that everything was either sticky or covered in dirt from the backyard. They were busy boys, always taking things apart. Food was permanently encrusted under their high chairs. It seemed as if some one was always throwing up or something was leaking out of a diaper. For quite a few years, I was permanently sleepy. Sometimes I felt like giving up. One thing kept me going: their love. They would come…

Giving up on Church?

Giving up on Church?

Give up on the church? I’d like to. It would be easy. If you have read some of my previous posts you would know that I’ve been hurt by the church. Maybe you’ve been hurt by the church too. Maybe you’ve given up on the church. Even though I have given up on certain congregations, I can’t give up on the church. When I consider the church, I see the hurt but I also see the “great cloud of witnesses”…

Grand Floridian Cafe

Grand Floridian Cafe

The Grand Floridian Cafe is located at the luxurious Grand Floridian Resort in the Magic Kingdom area of Walt Disney World. With our 20% pass holder discount, I thought the prices were fairly reasonable. The adult entrees are between $15-$35, with kids meals on average $8-$10. The restaurant provides a full allergy menu which offers dozens of selections. Of course, if you have questions or concerns you can speak to the chef. My son, who is gluten free, was quite…

Epcot’s International Flower and Garden Festival

Epcot’s International Flower and Garden Festival

Spring comes early to central Florida when Epcot’s International Flower and Garden Festival is in town. This year the Flower and Garden Festival runs from March 1 to May 29. A visit to the Flower and Garden festival is a great accompaniment to a unit on botany and butterflies. Last year we brought our nature journals and sketched some of the many plants that Disney showcases during their festival. However, this year we opted to stroll around and enjoy the…

Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show

Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show

Hidden in the palm trees and lush foliage of Walt Disney World’s Polynesian Resort lies the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show. As our family waited in line for the show, we felt like we had been transported to the Polynesian Islands. We enjoyed the mild Florida March weather and the view of the Seven Seas Lagoon.  We were given leis and then the hostess showed us to our table which was already set with tropical mixed greens in mango poppyseed…

Fort Christmas Historical Park

Fort Christmas Historical Park

Situated in Christmas, Florida, the Fort Christmas Historical Park is the home of various historical and recreational opportunities. On our recent trip with a local homeschool group, my boys and I received an informative tour of the restored homes and what life was like in rural Florida from the 1870s-1930s. During the interactive school program, my boys had the opportunity to experience the self sufficient life of Florida’s pioneers. Our group dipped candles, washed clothes, pumped water, ground corn and…

Looking Inside

Looking Inside

As an adult I have learned some important life lessons. Some of my life lessons are lessons that I wish I didn’t have to learn; ladybugs aren’t poisonous when swallowed, drinking a sample bottle of Zyrtec won’t hurt a toddler and the smell of vomit is hard to get out of cars. One of the most important life lessons I learned was when I was about 11 or 12.  If I you caught a glimpse of her at the grocery…

PizzeRizzo

PizzeRizzo

PizzeRizzo is Disney’s Hollywood Studios newest eatery. Located in the former Toy Story themed Pizza Planet, PizzeRizzo is in Muppets Courtyard next to Muppet Vision 3D. Plenty of seating can be found on both levels and outside. We usually sit on the top floor as it is usually fairly empty and quiet. It is a nice sensory break for my boys and I, who are easily overwhelmed after a few hours at the park. For more of a sensory experience,…

Chip n’ Dale Campfire Sing-a-Long

Chip n’ Dale Campfire Sing-a-Long

What is the difference between Chip and Dale? If you go to Chip n’ Dale’s campfire sing-a-long at Walt Disney World’s Campground you can find out. One of our family’s favorite Disney attractions is the free sing-a-long. As guests cozy up to the campfires, a cowboy leads audience members in interactive family favorite songs. Chip n’ Dale lead some songs and dances and pose for pictures with audience members. Of course a campfire sing-a-long wouldn’t be complete without s’mores. You…
